A 50% disabled veteran cannot cover a modest two-bedroom in Maryland. CHV closes that gap with direct housing placements and rent assistance.

Who we are

Veteran-led, and accountable to the people we serve

We are Compassionate Homes for Veterans, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit closing the gap between what our veterans earn and what a home in Maryland costs. Every lease we sign is a step toward a future where no veteran is left behind.

A single act of kindness can create endless ripples of hope. Bryan Worsley, Founder & Executive Director

How we help

When the numbers stop adding up, a veteran loses a home

A veteran rated 50 percent disabled receives approximately $1,075 per month from the Department of Veterans Affairs. In the Baltimore region, a modest two-bedroom apartment rents for roughly $2,314. The math is unforgiving, and HUD-VASH vouchers do not keep pace with rising Fair Market Rents.

While federal programs are essential, they cannot reach every veteran in time. That is where CHV steps in, with direct rental assistance and housing guarantees designed to meet the math precisely where it breaks.

How it works

The anatomy of a move-in

Housing a veteran is not a mystery. Four steps, from the first call to the keys.

  1. 24-hour intake

A veteran contacts CHV. We respond within 24 hours. Every branch, every discharge category.

  2. We hold the lease

CHV signs the lease directly and backs it with a 100 percent on-time rent record. The landlord's risk becomes ours.

  3. Keys in hand

The veteran moves into a safe, stable home.

  4. Wrap-around support

Within two business days, partner agencies step in with case management, wellness, financial, and legal support.

Together

Together, we end veteran homelessness

One lease, one veteran, one supporter at a time. This is work a community does together, or not at all.
