About CHV

  • What is CHV?

Compassionate Homes for Veterans (CHV) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization leading the fight to end veteran homelessness in the United States. We serve veterans in Maryland today, with a national vision. Founded in 2023 by U.S. Army veteran Bryan Worsley.

  • Who do you serve?

U.S. veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. All veterans welcome, regardless of discharge status, including all all veterans regardless of discharge status.

  • Where do you operate?

Maryland today. We have a 10-year vision of national presence as our model proves out.

Donor-to-veteran gifting concept (in development)

  • Does CHV run a direct cash aid program today?

No. CHV's current service is stable housing solutions (shelter referral, transitional housing, permanent housing, and security-deposit and rent assistance when funding allows). A separate donor-to-veteran gifting concept is in early planning and development.

  • What would the gifting concept do?

If built and validated, it would let donors gift verified veterans directly to help cover essentials such as food, transportation, medication, and clothing, using accountable prepaid cards restricted by merchant category. No cash withdrawal would be possible.

  • Is there research behind this?

Yes, in the broader field. Direct cash transfers have strong evidence bases: the Denver Basic Income Project, the New Leaf Project, and J-PAL research. No U.S. veteran-specific Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) has been published. A properly-designed CHV pilot could one day be the first, with an academic partner.

  • When will the concept launch?

Unknown. It remains in planning and development. CHV will report progress honestly as the concept advances. No veterans have received funds through it today.

Giving

  • Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. CHV is a registered 501(c)(3). EIN 92-3849743. Zeffy issues automated receipts.

  • Why Zeffy and not Stripe or PayPal?

Zeffy charges zero platform fees. 100 percent of your gift reaches CHV. Donor tips to Zeffy are optional and funded separately by donors, not deducted from your gift.

  • I am a federal employee. Can I give via CFC?

Yes. Our code is #44992. Pledge via the CFC portal and set it to payroll deduction.

  • Can I give stock or from a donor-advised fund?

Yes. Email info@compassionatehomes.org for wiring instructions and DAF intake.

Partnerships

  • Our organization wants to work with CHV. How do we start?

Visit the Partner With Us page and submit the inquiry form. We respond within two business days.

  • I am a landlord. Can I offer a unit?

Yes. Our our transitional housing model has CHV sign the lease, a partner agency place a veteran, and CHV absorb any vacancy risk. Visit the our transitional housing page.

For veterans

  • How do I get help from CHV?

Visit Get Help and start your intake, or call (800) 538-7985. We respond within 24 hours.

  • Do I need my DD-214 to reach out?

No. Reach out first. If discharge-status paperwork is in the way, we will help you navigate it or refer you to partners who specialize in that work.
