Commitment to WCAG 2.1 AA.

Our commitment

CHV designs and builds compassionatehomes.org to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. Many veterans we serve live with disabilities, and accessibility is not a compliance checkbox for us. It is our default.

What we have built

• Semantic HTML structure and logical heading hierarchy on every page.
• Keyboard navigation and visible focus indicators on all interactive elements.
• Skip-to-main-content link at the top of every page.
• Alt text on meaningful imagery. Decorative imagery is marked aria-hidden.
• Color contrast 4.5:1 or greater for body text, 3:1 or greater for large text.
• Touch targets at least 44 pixels on mobile.
• Respect for prefers-reduced-motion in animations and transitions.
• Form labels, required indicators, and error messaging associated with inputs.

Known limitations

We are still improving:

• Some embedded third-party forms (Zeffy, calendar) inherit third-party accessibility patterns we do not fully control.
• Long-form content (Founder’s Letter) is being reviewed for reading-level alternatives.
• Video content, once added, will include captions and transcripts.
